Fishing & Water Sports
The Fort Peck Lake is one of the finest fresh water fisheries in the United States. State record Small Mouth Bass, world record Saugeye and several state record Walleye have been caught here. You may also find: Perch, Pike, Trout, Salmon and Catfish.
Hell Creek State Park, located 26 miles north of Jordan, is a convenient gateway to Fort Peck Lake. With an expansive bay, there is plenty of room for fishing, boating skiing and swimming. There is a large campground area with picnic areas and good boat ramps nearby. The Hell Creek Marina offers cabin and boat rentals, groceries and a wide variety of fishing and boating supplies.

Hunting & Outdoor Recreation
Hunters will be amazed at the game opportunities in Garfield County. You can hunt trophy elk, mule deer, whitetail deer, and pronghorn antelope. There is also an abundance of bird species, including wild turkeys, sage grouse, sharp tail grouse, Hungarian partridges, pheasants and a variety of waterfowl.
Hunting access is allowed in most areas by permission, either on a fee or non-fee basis. There are a number of guides and outfitters in the area if you prefer not to guide yourself. Lodging is a available at the local motels and various guest ranches by reservation. However, this is a popular hunting area so you are encouraged to make reservations early!
Are you looking for a unique way to spend your vacation in the West? Garfield County is home to a number of guest ranches and bed & breakfast inns. These folks offer everything from working ranch vacations, to wagon trains, to guided sight seeing tours.
Rodeo is a popular sport in and around Garfield County. Many well known riders and ropers got their start in one of the two High School Rodeos held in May. Many of these young people have participated in the Montana High School Rodeo Association Finals and the National High school Rodeo Assoc. Finals. Some have moved on to the Northern Rodeo Assoc. Finals and a few have been to the esteemed Professional Rodeo Cowboy's Assoc. Finals. In addition to high school rodeo activities, there is the Annual Matched Bronc Ride on Father's Day and Ranch Rodeo on the Saturday of County Fair weekend. Cohagen has an active roping club and hosts a summer roping series.
